Sober Living Homes, also known as sober living centers and drug detoxification homes, are residential facilities that offer therapeutic, safe living conditions and supportive, structured living situations for those exiting drug rehab programs. SLHs generally serve as a transition between such rehabilitation programs and outside society. They provide a healthy and safe haven for addicts to re-gain their sobriety and resume their normal routines and responsibilities.

Many rehab programs offer the option of staying in a sober living center or at one of their sober recovery homes. The addict is able to live there for a period of time, up to six months, in an outpatient capacity. Once the addict is no longer in need of rehab, they may choose to move on to a full-time, inpatient stay at a sober living center or a residential detoxification center. It all depends on the addict and the type of support offered by the treatment program in question.

For those looking for a way to get back to their life, after leaving addiction recovery homes, the process of moving into a sober home can be overwhelming. An addict’s support system will help him/her with the transition. Many individuals have found that they can handle these new responsibilities by themselves. In order to become a full-time member of a sober living center, however, the addict will need to participate in ongoing counseling sessions, in addition to continuing to attend their detoxification program.
