Sober Living Homes, also known as sober living facilities and sober housing, homes for drug addicts or people entering into drug rehabilitation programs who want to be in a secure environment. They are usually located in neighborhoods where there is no trouble with neighbors. It is important to note that not all sober living homes are for alcoholics only, some may even accept people who are in recovery from addictions such as drug addiction.

These facilities are often used by those who have completed residential care but need to continue on with their life as they try to get off drugs and alcohol. The residents of these homes are usually very well behaved, healthy, and well groomed. They are usually able to live on their own and lead normal lives, but are still subject to ongoing supervision and help from staff. Some residential homes will even have services such as counseling and medical care available. As a consequence of their withdrawal symptoms, many patients are prone to relapse into their old habits. Community living homes are another type of this kind of residence. They are similar to residential care facilities but are more residential. Community living homes are usually found in retirement communities, assisted living communities, and hospitals. Residents of these residences are often those who have recently recovered from treatment for alcoholism or substance abuse. Because of their close relationship to their neighbors, community living homes offer a safe place for residents to get away from their past traumas and start over with a clean slate.
