If you have ever been to a transitional living center, then you know that they are not for everybody. They are not for single people who have recently been out of high school or for young singles who are just trying to make some friends before they move into the big city. Transitional living centers are designed to help seniors and people who have disabilities go through the transition from their homes to apartments or assisted living facilities so they can live independently in a controlled setting. If you think that a Transitional Living Center is for you, then you should consider what it takes to become a resident of one of these centers.
First of all, you will need to undergo the transition program at the center. The program consists of a number of classes that you will be required to take in order to prepare you for the transition process. You will also be required to sign a release form so that you are not legally obligated to stay at the center once you leave. You must be at least eighteen years old, although sometimes the age is lowered during the transitional living center’s transition program. You must be able to read and speak in both English and Spanish and you must have basic health insurance or Medicare.
Another thing you will need to do to qualify for the transition program is to participate in a minimum of three hours of transitional living community work each week. The community work that you do will be for the Transitional Living center, but it is important to note that they will send you out on several different assignments throughout the year. The goal of your transitional living community work is to teach you everything you need to know about staying independent and being self reliant.
