The question often asked is “What is Sober Living and what are its benefits?” As a resident of the state of Hawaii, I have come to understand the benefits of a lifestyle geared toward being clean. Living in the lap of nature, away from the hustle and bustle of society, can be refreshing and quite refreshing. It can lead to many new and exciting ideas that we would not have otherwise thought of and can really help one’s body, mind, and spirit. I was introduced to Sober Living through a program called Transitional Living, which is a nonprofit that provides housing for those who have substance abuse problems. The motto of Transitional Living is to create a safe haven for these individuals by providing them with both an in-home environment as well as on-site support groups. The residential community is also referred to as a “household” community, and there are many on-site activities for the members of the community to take part in. This includes fishing, hiking, boating, bird watching, and just hanging out with friends. When one decides to move into Sober Living in Pearl City, it means that they have determined that they want a lifestyle that is free from substance abuse and other addictive behaviors. They are proud to live this lifestyle, and welcome others to join them. In order to get this information, you need to consult a local agency in the area. Most importantly, you need to do your homework and research all the options before making any final decisions.
