One of the best things that I have discovered about Indiana is that there are plenty of organizations and facilities that can help you find the right program for you. In my own research, I have come across several programs in Indianapolis and in New Albany that can help people with substance abuse problems to transition into sober living. I recently had the chance to speak with a man that has been receiving treatment at the Center for Drug Rehabilitation and Recovery (DDR) in New Albany. The program is only one of several in the Indianapolis area that is designed to help individuals overcome their addiction. Dressed in full regalia, the center’s men and women are as dignified as any medical professional who treats addicted patients, but with a much different mindset.
As a former patient of an addiction facility, I was aware of all of the myths that I heard during my time in recovery. I heard it all: drugs are just part of life; they are not evil. I also heard that people will leave rehab without finishing it, if the right programs are not available to them. I wasn’t prepared for the honest information that I got from the Center for Drug Rehabilitation and Recovery. I was told that there are plenty of programs for addicts to choose from. And they are not hard to find.
I now know why it can be difficult to find a program that works for you: because I finally realized that when I decided to give up drugs, it was not an easy decision. There are a lot of people like me waiting for the same life-altering treatment. But when I decided to go to a DSR program, I was able to transform myself in more than one way. I am living proof that staying clean can lead to a successful life in Indiana.
