Sober Living Homes, also known as sober living environments and sober houses, are residential facilities that offer supportive, safe living conditions for individuals leaving drug rehab programs. SLHs provide a safe and secure environment for an individual or family member to successfully transition out of drugs and alcohol abuse. They also serve as an ideal transitional environment between the treatment program and the mainstream world. In some states, they can also be referred to as “In-House Drug Treatment Centers” (IHTCs).
Sober homes provide all the amenities necessary for individuals to maintain a healthy lifestyle. They consist of a kitchen, bathroom, living area, and sleeping area. In addition to this, most of them provide individual or group therapy to its residents. A majority of them even offer specialized detoxification programs to detoxify addicts from their harmful addictions and help them regain control over their lives.
While many Sober Living Homes is residential in nature, there are also some that are designed to be more comfortable than residential treatment centers. These include those which are intended to be short-term and short-stay, while others are meant to provide support and assistance for an individual’s entire recovery. This can include those rehabs that have a full staff, such as those which are run by faith-based rehab centers.
